Many people are overwhelmed by the idea of picking up a Bible to read it.
People think it’s way over their head to understand or that the language is boring and tough to follow. For any number of reasons people feel intimidated by opening the Bible.
Here are some things to help you get started.
- I did a workshop on this topic a while back. You can find it here.
- The Bible Project on YouTube does a good job summarizing books of the Bible.
- You can also find good book summaries from Issues. Etc.
- Here’s a reading plan from Crucial Productions to help you see the point of everything you’re reading.
Here’s the big thing about reading the Bible… read it. Don’t just read in isolation, though. Go to church to learn. Go to Bible study to think and talk through all of this. Ask one of us (your pastors) questions when they come up.
You’re going to have questions because we’re culturally removed from the time and place that we read about in Scripture.
The more you read the Bible, the more dots you’ll connect pointing us to God’s goodness and mercy. We read the Bible and we see Jesus all over the place. All of the Bible is pointing us to Jesus.
Read the Bible so that God’s Word can shape you. Dive in. Ask questions. Go in peace!
